Oil Painting Basics

Dates: Weekly on Tuesdays beginning January 2nd, 2018 (on-going)
Time: 1 – 3 PM

This class will cover the basics of oil painting from learning to mix color to oil painting techniques. It will require the student to purchase their own supplies and bring their own inspirational subject matter to paint.
Oil/Acrylic Painting Class Materials List
Stretched Canvas (no larger than 8×12)
Palette and Palette knife
Assortment of nylon and bristle brushes of various shapes and sizes (from 1 inch to ¼ inch wide and smaller).
Pencil & kneeded eraser
Oil Paint tubes in the following colors:
A large tube of Titanium White
Smaller tubes of:
Lemon yellow (or similar)
Cadmium yellow medium (or similar)
Cadmium Red Light (or similar)
Cadmium Red Dark (or similar)
Alizarin Crimson (or similar)
Cerulean Blue (or similar)
Cobalt Blue (or similar)
Spill proof jars or containers for each; solvent and medium
Odorless mineral spirits
Painting medium (such as linseed oil)
small containers to pour medium and solvent in for use while painting
Rags or paper towels for use while painting and cleanup.
Soap bar for brush cleaning.
Some way to transport a wet painting such as a pizza box.
Last but not least; bring more than one image to paint that inspires you artistically. We will choose one that is suitable to use for an oil painting.
